Springer departed Guam for her first wartime patrol in early 1945, conducting lifeguard duties and anti-shipping searches in the western Pacific.
Details
Her second patrol continued operations in contested waters, inculding surfacing between two enemy ships chancing a daring bow and stearn shot.
Springer supported strike operations, rescued downed airmen when called, and engaged opportunistic targets in accordance with orders.
With the end of hostilities, Springer returned to the United States. She was decommissioned and recommissioned two more times.
